The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has appointed a 10-member Voluntary Advisory Council to support policy decisions and enhance the efficiency of public service delivery across the country.
Minister Dr. Chandana Abayaratne, speaking at the symbolic appointment ceremony held at the Ministry today (24), emphasized the importance of strategic decision-making during critical periods.
“To make the best decisions when working for the people, we need a clear vision for the future. Every action must be taken after weighing its pros and cons. We expect this Advisory Council to contribute to that process,” he said.
He added that the Ministry, being the largest and most widespread across the island, requires expert guidance to meet the expectations of citizens. “We are entrusted with a huge responsibility at a decisive moment in history. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to nation-building,” the Minister stated.
Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Ruwan Senarath highlighted that the initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to reform and improve public administration. He noted that the council brings together experienced professionals willing to contribute voluntarily towards better governance and organizational transformation.
Several ministries have already established similar advisory bodies. However, officials emphasized that this Ministry holds unique significance as it connects every region, functioning as “the heart that circulates the administrative lifeblood throughout the country.”
