The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) says severe weather conditions experienced in recent days have affected 18 districts across Sri Lanka.
DMC Director Pradeep Kodippili confirmed that 29,414 people from 7,395 families have been impacted by heavy rains, floods, and related incidents reported islandwide.
Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has extended landslide warnings issued for 11 districts due to ongoing rainfall and unstable soil conditions. Senior Geologist Dr. Wasantha Senadeera urged residents in high-risk areas to remain vigilant and follow safety advisories.
The Department of Irrigation has also reported elevated water levels in several major rivers, including the Nilwala River, Gin Ganga, Kalu Ganga, and Attanagalu Oya, warning that further increases are possible if rainfall continues.
Authorities advise the public to take necessary precautions and stay informed as weather conditions remain unpredictable.
