The Vice Chairman of the Baddegama Pradeshiya Sabha, Saman C. Liyanage, has been hospitalized following an attack carried out by a group of individuals yesterday (24) afternoon.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the Godakanda area of Baddegama while he was returning home with his wife. A group of men had allegedly blocked the road and launched the assault.
Mr. Liyanage is currently receiving treatment at the Galle National Hospital, and a formal complaint has been lodged with the Poddala Police regarding the incident.
Police sources said it is suspected that a candidate contesting for the Baddegama Pradeshiya Sabha may have been involved in organizing the attack.
The Poddala Police have commenced investigations into the incident.
