Minister of Power and Energy Kumara Jayakody has ordered the immediate cancellation of the decision made by the Secretary to the Ministry of Energy to extend the term of office of the Director General of the Power Sector Reforms Secretariat by one year.

Secretary to the Ministry, Udayanga Hemapala, had issued a letter on October 15 to H.P. Niroshan, Director General of the Power Sector Reforms Secretariat, extending his tenure until June 26 next year. The letter had also stated that the extension was approved by Minister Jayakody.

However, on October 22, Minister Jayakody wrote to the Secretary instructing him to revoke the extension immediately, stating that he had not granted such approval.

The Minister further emphasized that seeking approval for the extension without his consent could create a misleading impression.

Accordingly, Minister Jayakody has directed the Secretary to withdraw all actions related to the appointment, including the letter issued on October 15, with immediate effect.
