The body of a woman who had travelled to Meenachchi Watta in the Norton Bridge Police Division to celebrate the Deepawali festival was recovered from a tank in the Meenachchi Watta estate on the morning of the 24th
The deceased has been identified as 65-year-old Palanivel Ramasamy.
According to initial information, the victim’s daughter noticed her mother was missing and alerted residents. Estate workers were informed that the woman had last been seen walking toward the nearby tank, prompting a search operation. Her body was later discovered in the water by estate workers and relatives.
Norton Bridge Police have launched an investigation into the incident and currently suspect that the death may have been a case of suicide. Further inquiries are underway.
