Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala today told Parliament that a total of 1,947 weapons have been seized so far in 2025 during operations targeting underworld and drug-related activities across Sri Lanka.
Addressing the House, Minister Wijepala said that weapons play a key role in the operations of drug and underworld networks, contributing to the rising number of shooting incidents reported in several parts of the country.
He also disclosed that 78 T-56 firearms had previously been supplied to underworld gangs from a military camp, of which 36 have already been recovered** by authorities.
