An early warning for possible landslides has been issued for several areas across the island, effective from 5:00 p.m. today (21) until 5:00 p.m. tomorrow (22), according to the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO).
The NBRO has declared Level 1 (Early Warning) for the following areas:
Badulla District: Haldummulla, Passara
Colombo District: Seethawaka, Padukka
Galle District: Neluwa, Yakkalamulla
Kalutara District: Ingiriya, Horana, Palindanuwara, Bulathsinhala
Kandy District: Deltota, Doluwa, Udunuwara, Udapalatha, Pathadumbara, Pathahewaheta, Gangawata Korale, Pasbage Korale
Kegalle District: Ruwanwella, Warakapola, Bulathkohupitiya, Galigamuwa
Kurunegala District: Ridigama, Alawwa, Narammala, Mallawapitiya
Matale District: Rattota, Yatawatta, Ukuwela, Pallepola, Laggala, Naula, Ambanganga Korale
Matara District: Weligama
Nuwara Eliya District: Ambagamuwa, Haguranketha, Walapane, Norwood
Ratnapura District: Imbulpe, Kiriella, Kuruwita, Ayagama
Meanwhile, Level 2 (Landslide Alert) warnings have been issued for the following regions:
Galle District: Nagoda, Elpitiya, Baddegama
Kalutara District: Walallawita
Kandy District: Yatinuwara, Ududumbara
Kegalle District: Kegalle, Mawanella, Yatiyantota, Aranayake, Dehiowita, Rambukkana
Ratnapura District: Kalawana, Eheliyagoda, Ratnapura
The NBRO has urged residents in these areas to remain vigilant and to be alert for signs of possible landslides, such as cracks on the ground or slopes, tilting trees, or unusual sounds.
