The Hatton Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) Depot reported a record income of approximately Rs. 12 million from long- and short-distance operations during the Deepavali festival season, according to Depot Superintendent W.G. Keerthirathna.
Keerthirathna said that around 90 buses from the depot were deployed over the three-day period of October 17, 18, and 19. The impressive revenue was attributed to the dedication and teamwork of the drivers and conductors, many of whom worked extended hours during the festive period.
He noted that a significant number of the depot’s drivers and conductors are Hindus, and that 80 buses were operated by staff members who willingly interrupted their festival leave to meet the increased passenger demand.
The Depot Superintendent added that arrangements have also been made to strengthen transport services in the coming days, enabling workers who traveled to the plantations for the holidays to return to their workplaces smoothly after the Deepavali celebrations.
