President Anura Kumara Dissanayake instructed the Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) to prepare and submit a plan for the swift completion of university degree programmes without compromising quality. The plan should also focus on efficiently managing accumulated workloads and enhancing research and development activities. The government has assured that necessary facilities will be provided to implement the plan.
The instructions were given following a meeting held this morning (20) at the Presidential Secretariat with FUTA representatives.
During the meeting, FUTA representatives highlighted challenges within the university system, particularly the delays in completing degree programmes on time in recent years due to various reasons. Attention was also drawn to measures needed to improve the quality of higher education and to enhance the recruitment and retention of university academics and staff.
