The Department of Irrigation today announced that several spill gates have been opened at major reservoirs due to rising water levels following recent rainfall.
According to Director of Irrigation (Water Management), Eng. H.M.P.S.D. Herath, six spill gates of the Rajangana Tank have been opened by six feet, releasing a total discharge of 7,800 cubic feet per second (cusecs).
At the Angamuwa Tank, two spill gates have been opened by seven feet, with a total discharge of 3,908 cusecs.
Meanwhile, at the Daduruoya Reservoir, four spill gates have been opened by four feet and two spill gates by three feet, releasing approximately 15,000 cusecs of water into the Daduruoya River.
The Department continues to monitor the situation closely and advises the public living downstream to remain alert to possible rising water levels.
