The Nuwara Eliya Headquarters Police have arrested 18 individuals who arrived in the area for the weekend in possession of various types of drugs.
Police said the arrests were made today (18) during special operations conducted using roadblocks, with assistance from the Nuwara Eliya Divisional Police Dog Unit, covering all roads leading into the town.
Among those arrested are a group identified through Facebook, reportedly arriving for a party scheduled to be held in Nuwara Eliya today.
The suspects, aged between 18 and 28, are residents of several areas including Dematagoda, Gampaha, and Colombo.
According to Nuwara Eliya Headquarters Police Chief Inspector, the suspects were found with kush, heroin, ice, other narcotics, and illegally imported cigarettes.
All 18 suspects are to be produced before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court.
