Minister of Energy Engineer Kumara Jayakody attended the Russian Energy Week 2025 in Moscow from 15–17 October, aiming to strengthen energy sector cooperation between Sri Lanka and the Russian Federation and explore new opportunities for collaboration.
During the conference, Minister Jayakody held discussions with the Russian Minister and Deputy Minister of Energy, as well as leading representatives of the energy sector. He also participated as a guest speaker in the panel discussion titled “Sustainable Development Goals and Energy”, where he outlined Sri Lanka’s upcoming energy goals, future renewable energy initiatives, and strategies for sustainable development.
The discussions focused on innovations and new technologies in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and knowledge exchange between the two countries. Minister Jayakody emphasized Sri Lanka’s energy transition program, highlighting renewable energy development, energy security, and sustainability, while seeking support from Russia, a leading energy supplier and global innovation leader, in achieving these objectives.
Russian Energy Week is recognized as one of the world’s premier conferences on energy security, innovation, and sustainable energy use, attracting state leaders, international experts, investors, and policymakers to discuss challenges and solutions in the energy sector.
The Sri Lankan delegation included Ambassador to Russia Shobini Gunasekara, Sri Lanka Petroleum Corporation Chairman Janaka Rajakaruna, and other senior officials.
