A fatal road accident on the Kebithigollewa–Padaviya road claimed the life of a teacher and left three others injured, according to Kebithigollewala Police.
The accident occurred on Thursday evening (17) near the Mahanatiyawa 07 km post, when a cab traveling towards Kebithigollewa collided head-on with a car heading in the opposite direction. Following the collision, both vehicles plunged into a nearby river, police said.
The driver of the car, identified as 47-year-old Sanjeewa Kumara, a Pirivena teacher from the Ataweeragollawe area in Medawachchiya, died at the scene.
Three others, including the cab driver, sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital for further treatment. The injured are reported to be residents of Kebithigollewa and Vavuniya.
Both vehicles involved in the crash have been taken into police custody, and the Kebithigollewa Police Traffic Division has launched a full investigation into the cause of the accident.
