The Ministry of Education has announced that textbooks will not be issued for Grade 1 and Grade 6 students in the upcoming academic year, as part of the government’s new education reforms.
According to News First, Deputy Minister of Education Madura Seneviratne said that instead of traditional textbooks, students in these grades will receive activity books and modular learning materials designed to support the reformed curriculum.
He added that the printing of these new materials has already begun, ensuring they will be ready for distribution before the start of the new school year.
The Deputy Minister also noted that the move will help reduce the weight of schoolbags, easing the physical burden on younger students.
