In recognition of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya’s academic and public achievements, Hindu College, University of Delhi, has inaugurated a new research facility named the “Harini Amarasuriya Social & Ethnographic Research Lab.”

Prime Minister Amarasuriya, who earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Hindu College, visited her alma mater during her ongoing official visit to India. She was warmly welcomed by the college administration, faculty members, and students.

During her visit, Dr. Amarasuriya revisited the classrooms where she once studied and reflected on how her education at Hindu College shaped her academic journey and lifelong dedication to social justice, equality, and education reform.

Addressing students, she emphasized the importance of curiosity, empathy, and critical thinking, noting that “education is not merely about securing individual futures, but about equipping ourselves to transform the futures of others.”

She also highlighted the values of compassion, democracy, and active citizenship as essential to building inclusive and equitable societies.
