Attorney-at-Law Gunaratne Wanninayaka was released on bail today (15) by Mount Lavinia Magistrate Pasan Amarasena after being charged with assaulting a police officer on duty and verbally abusing him within the court premises.
Wanninayaka appeared before the court this evening, and the Magistrate ordered his release on two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each.
The Magistrate also warned that the bail would be revoked if the suspect attempts to influence or intimidate any witnesses.
In addition, the court directed Wanninayaka to appear before the Western Province South Crimes Division by 9 a.m. tomorrow (16) to record a statement.
