An individual who had been charging money to send women aged between 58 and 60 to Dubai as domestic workers using tourist visas was arrested today (14) in the Udahamulla area by officers of the Special Investigation Division of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE).

The arrest followed two complaints received by the Bureau regarding the suspect, who operated an establishment called Metsara Housemaid Services on Beddagana Road, Kotte. According to the complaints, one woman had traveled to Dubai on a tourist visa and returned to Sri Lanka after failing to secure employment, while another woman had paid money for a promised job abroad that never materialized.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had defrauded Rs. 1.1 million from the victims. When officers initially visited the alleged office in Kotte, they found that no such institution existed. Acting on further intelligence, the officers located and arrested the suspect at a temporary residence in Suhada Mawatha, Udahamulla.

During the arrest, officers seized four foreign passports, several CVs, visa documents, and other related materials.

The suspect is to be produced before the Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (15) for further legal action.
