The Kopay Police Station have been temporarily withdrawn from the area following an order issued by the Jaffna District Court.
The police station had been operating out of eight houses belonging to civilians, and the court ordered that seven of those houses be returned to their owners. Police said the properties were handed back to the owners today (15).
Until the station is re-established, the Jaffna Police will temporarily handle complaints from the Kopay area.
For security reasons, the Kopay Police armory has also been moved to the Jaffna Police. A senior police officer said the Kopay Police Station is expected to be re-established within about two months.
