Over 3,000 Sri Lankans to work in South Korea by October end

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) announced that the number of Sri Lankans departing for employment opportunities in South Korea is expected to surpass 3,000 by the end of October this year.

A group of 36 Sri Lankans, including 33 men and three women, who have obtained employment in South Korea’s manufacturing sector, are scheduled to leave for South Korea today (October 14) on SriLankan Airlines flight UL 470.

According to SLBFE statistics, a total of 2,927 Sri Lankans left for South Korea for employment last year, including 100 women. Among them, 2,197 secured jobs in the manufacturing sector, 680 in the fisheries sector, 25 in the construction sector, 23 in the service sector, and two in the agricultural sector.

Meanwhile, the Bureau plans to send nearly 200 more Sri Lankans for employment in South Korea before the end of this month.

In addition, 36,745 candidates have registered for the 2025 Korean Language Proficiency Test, which is set to commence on October 23.
