Opposition MP Dr. Harsha de Silva announced that Sri Lanka is expected to receive around 150 new ambulances for the 1990 Suwaseriya Emergency Ambulance Service following discussions with Tata Group Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran.
Speaking to the media, Dr. de Silva criticized the government’s reported move to change the logo and colors of the 1990 Suwaseriya service, calling such actions unnecessary and wasteful.
“The 1990 Suwaseriya is a well-established and trusted brand. There is no point in changing it,” he said, responding to reports that the government has instructed the service to modify its visual identity.
He further dismissed claims that he personally owns the service, calling the notion “ridiculous.”
“It seems the government thinks I own this service. If they want to change the name and color, there’s no point in telling me,” he added.
Dr. de Silva emphasized that significant time, effort, and investment had gone into building the Suwaseriya brand and that any attempt to rebrand would demand additional resources and careful planning.
