Sri Lankan athlete Pradeep Somasiri has brought pride to the nation by winning a bronze medal in the 1,500m T47 event at this year’s World Para Athletics Championships held in New Delhi, India.

Somasiri clocked an impressive time of 3 minutes and 53.7 seconds, setting a new Asian record in the process.

Meanwhile, team leader Nuwan Indika Gamage also made his mark, winning a bronze medal in the long jump T44 category with a distance of 6.46 meters.

The prestigious championship saw the participation of over 1,000 top-ranked athletes from more than 100 countries. Sri Lanka was represented by five athletes, who competed in nine events at the tournament.
