Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya says he will seek the Attorney General’s assistance on behalf of the police officer involved in the recent incident with a lawyer at the Mount Lavinia court premises.

Speaking to the media after a meeting in Trincomalee today (12), the IGP said a government lawyer will also be involved and necessary legal action will be taken.

He added that the Police Special Investigation Unit has been assigned to conduct an impartial inquiry into whether proper procedures were followed during the incident. The case is to be taken up again at the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (13).
