A national program to distribute 2,000 land deeds to upcountry Malayaga communities will be held today (12) under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Bandarawela Public Grounds, starting at 10:00 a.m.
This housing initiative aims to uplift the living standards of plantation communities residing in the hill country by providing them with safe, environmentally friendly homes equipped with essential facilities.
The selection criteria for recipients include being a registered, retired, or casual estate worker; having at least five years of continuous residence on an estate; membership in an estate workers’ cooperative housing society; not having received previous housing assistance; and currently residing in a line room or temporary dwelling.
Additionally, consideration is given to those living in areas identified as disaster-prone by the National Building Research Organization (NBRO).
