Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm is likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva Provinces. Showers may also occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, and in Galle, Matara, and Puttalam Districts during the morning.

The Department of Meteorology says that showers or thundershowers are expected in several areas across most provinces after 1.00 p.m. today (12).

Maisty conditions can be expected in parts of Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva Provinces during the morning hours.

The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning and temporary strong winds associated with thundershowers.

Condition of Rain:

Showers or thundershowers are expected in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambantota. A few showers or thundershowers may also occur in other sea areas around the island during the evening or night.

Winds:

Winds will be south-westerly or variable, with speeds between 25–35 km/h.

Wind speeds could increase up to 45 km/h at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

State of the Sea:

The sea areas off Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be moderate at times, while other sea areas around the island will remain slight.

Caution:

Temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas are expected during thundershowers. Mariners and fishermen are advised to exercise caution.
