Train services on the Puttalam line have been disrupted due to a derailment that occurred at the Negombo Railway Station this morning.
According to the Railway Department, a train travelling from Negombo to Chilaw derailed, resulting in services being limited to the Negombo station until further notice. Repair work is currently underway to restore normal operations.
Meanwhile, a separate incident was reported on the Northern Line, where a wild elephant collided with a train travelling from Kankesanthurai to Colombo Fort. The collision occurred between Murukandi and Mankulam, the Railway Department confirmed.
Authorities said that no major injuries were reported from either incident, and steps are being taken to resume services as soon as possible.
