The Colombo High Court yesterday (11) directed the Inspector General of Police and the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department to arrest drug trafficker Kanapathi Ganesh, also known as “Thotalanga Kanna,” and immediately execute his life imprisonment sentence.

Judge Manjula Thilakaran delivered the ruling after a lengthy hearing, stating that the prosecution had proven the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Attorney General had filed the case against Ganesh on December 26, 2014, for possession and trafficking of 39.99 grams of heroin in the Elakanda area. The defendant, who had been granted bail during the trial, had absconded and was not present in court during the proceedings.

Following the High Court’s verdict, Kanapathi Ganesh was sentenced to life imprisonment for the crimes.
