The Colombo District Court today (10) delivered its verdict in the defamation case filed by former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka against Ranjan Jayalal, who served as the General Secretary of the Lanka Electricity Workers Union.
The case was filed over a false statement made by Ranjan Jayalal that allegedly defamed Mr. Ranawaka during his tenure as the Minister of Power and Energy.
Announcing the judgment, the Colombo District Court ordered Ranjan Jayalal to pay compensation of one million rupees (Rs. 1,000,000) to Patali Champika Ranawaka.
