"The most important factor in transport as well as our client is the passenger. Currently, the number of deaths due to vehicle accidents has increased significantly. This situation has become a huge crisis in the transport sector.
The MP expressed these views while participating in the inauguration of the pilot project to test the quality of buses that will start their journey from the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Center yesterday (10).
The relevant technicians tested the running condition of several buses that were scheduled to start their journey from Makumbura this morning. At the same time, the quality certificate of the relevant buses was issued and a sticker was affixed by MP Suraweera stating that the buses that were inspected were in a condition suitable for operation.
Colombo District MP and Chairman of the Colombo District Development Committee, Mr. Suraweera, further stated that this project will be implemented islandwide in the future and steps will be taken to legalize this by making it a law, and that it is hoped that the number of road accidents that occur yesterday will be minimized through this.
Gampaha District MP Chaminda Lalith Kumara, Project Director of the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Center Nalaka Dissanayake, Director General of the Department of Motor Traffic Kamal Amarasinghe and a group of senior officials of the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development participated in this occasion.
