The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has imposed a fine of Rs. 600,000 on a business establishment in the Kolonnawa area found guilty of selling bottled drinking water at a price higher than the government-regulated rate.

The case, filed by the Narahenpita District Office of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA), alleged that the business sold a 500ml bottle of drinking water for Rs. 90, exceeding the regulated price of Rs. 70.

When the case was taken up yesterday, the accused establishment pleaded guilty to the offence.

CAA investigating officers told the court that the offence carries a fine ranging from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 500,000 under the Consumer Affairs Authority Act.
