The Colombo Port has earned a net profit of Rs. 32.2 billion during the first eight months of 2025, marking a 71% increase compared to Rs. 18.9 billion recorded during the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation.

This year’s profit surpassed the estimated target of Rs. 21 billion by more than Rs. 11 billion, reflecting strong performance driven by development projects and improved service efficiency.

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) said container handling has increased by about 6% compared to the first eight months of 2024. With the completion of major infrastructure projects such as the Eastern Terminal and Jaya Container Terminal, the SLPA expects further growth in handling capacity.

The Authority attributed the higher-than-expected profit to factors such as renewed terminal service agreements, enhanced operational capacity, and effective cost management. The SLPA added that the profits will be reinvested to strengthen Colombo Port’s position as a leading transshipment hub in the region.
