A total of Rs. 18,213,556 has been awarded as compensation by a foreign insurance company for four Sri Lankan migrant workers who died while employed overseas, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) announced.
The compensation was granted to the families of Mrs. W.A. Dhammika, Mrs. W.P. Seetha Padma Kumari, and Miss Chanika Madushani, who were employed in Kuwait, and Mrs. Nalini de Silva, who was working in Saudi Arabia at the time of her death.
According to the Bureau, Rs. 4,700,110 was paid to the family of Mrs. W.A. Dhammika, with the amount distributed to her husband and two daughters. Mrs. Seetha Padma Kumari’s family received Rs. 4,504,482, which was given to her son and daughter at the request of her husband. Miss Chanika Madushani’s parents received Rs. 4,504,482, while Mrs. Nalini de Silva’s daughter received an equal amount on behalf of the family.
The SLBFE further stated that, in addition to these foreign insurance compensations, arrangements have been made to provide additional benefits available through free registration with the Bureau to the families of the deceased workers in the future.
