Police in Matara opened fire on a car that had ignored orders to stop and was driving recklessly in the Wellamadama area last night.
According to police, officers stationed at a roadblock signaled the vehicle to halt, but the driver failed to comply and continued at high speed. Officers then opened fire at the vehicle.
The car was later discovered abandoned on Janaraja Mawatha in Matara. Two individuals who had been traveling in the car reportedly fled the scene.
Police said that the owner of the vehicle has been identified, and one suspect has already been arrested in connection with the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
