The Department of Meteorology says that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern and North-Central provinces and in the Trincomalee district today (08).

Showers or thundershowers are also expected in other parts of the island after 1.00 p.m., while morning showers are likely in Western and North-Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

The Met Department warns that fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm may occur in some areas of the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Central, and Uva provinces.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damages from lightning and temporary strong winds during thundershowers.

Rain Conditions:

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Galle via Kankasanthurai, Puttalam, and Colombo.

Other sea areas around the island may also experience showers or thundershowers in the evening or night.

Winds:

Winds will be south-westerly or variable, with speeds of 20–30 kmph.

State of the Sea:

The sea areas around the island will be slight, but temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
