The public is advised to take necessary precautions against possible lightning strikes and temporary strong winds that may accompany thundershowers.

The Department of Meteorology forecasts showers or thundershowers in most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m. today (07). Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm is expected in certain areas of the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Central, and Uva provinces.

Morning showers or thundershowers are also possible in the Western Province and in the Galle, Matara, Puttalam, Jaffna, and Trincomalee districts.

Meanwhile, the sea areas around the island may experience showers or thundershowers at several places. Winds will be south-westerly or variable with speeds of 25–35 kmph, and the seas are expected to be slight to moderate. However, temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can occur during thundershowers.
