The elephant Menika, belonging to the Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya, has passed away.
When inquired, officials at the Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya confirmed that Menika had passed away a short while ago.
The temple authorities stated that the elephant was 78 years old at the time of her death and had been cared for at the temple for many years.
Menika had been a beloved presence at the Bellanwila temple, participating in numerous religious events and processions over the decades.
