The Director General of the Dehiwala National Zoo, Dr. R.C. Rajapaksa, confirmed that a complaint has been lodged with the Dehiwala Police following the theft of 32 pigeons from the zoo.
According to Dr. Rajapaksa, the theft took place during the night of the 4th. The stolen pigeons were kept in a cage and had been under the zoo’s care as part of case materials according to a court order. The Director General emphasized that the cage had been forcibly broken into.
Dehiwala Police stated that, as of now, no information regarding the theft or the whereabouts of the pigeons has emerged. Authorities have, however, initiated a special investigation to trace the stolen birds and apprehend the culprits.
