Oncologist Dr. Senaka Kandegedara has revealed that 4,170 new cancer patients have been admitted to the Kandy National Hospital this year.

According to Dr. Kandegedara, nearly five new patients are registered daily, while over 100 patients receive chemotherapy treatment at the hospital each day.

He highlighted severe overcrowding in the wards, noting that around 105 patients are housed in a single ward. There are frequent instances of two patients sharing one bed or three patients accommodated in two beds.

Dr. Kandegedara also stated that Kandy National Hospital handles the second-highest number of cancer patients in the country, following the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital.
