Three local hiking groups who climbed Narangala Mountain in Badulla were stranded on the summit yesterday (4) evening following heavy rainfall and strong winds, according to the Badulla Disaster Management Centre.
A total of 22 individuals from the three groups have been reported stranded at the mountain peak. A Sri Lanka Army rescue team has already reached the area to ensure their safety and assist in bringing them down.
Officials stated that the hikers are facing severe difficulties due to continuous rain, strong winds, and cold weather conditions. However, telephone communication has been established with them, and the groups have now combined into a single camp to maintain contact.
The stranded individuals are said to be a mix of youth and adults from various parts of the country who had ascended the mountain for camping and recreational activities, the Disaster Management Centre further confirmed.
