The Bribery Commission said today that legal action will be instituted under the Anti-Corruption Act of 2023 and other relevant laws against individuals or organizations spreading false news aimed at discrediting the Commission and its work.
Issuing a statement, the Commission said that certain parties and institutions with vested interests have been deliberately circulating baseless and misleading claims regarding the Commission through electronic, print, and social media.
The Commission warned that such actions not only tarnish its image but also divert public attention away from several major investigations currently underway. It added that this could create a distorted perception of the Commission’s legitimacy and its anti-corruption efforts.
Reaffirming its independence, the Commission stressed that it has been vested with statutory powers under the Anti-Corruption Act of 2023 to carry out its duties impartially and ensure accountability without interference.
