Sri Lanka has declared the period from October 1 to 5 as National Habitat Week, in line with World Habitat Day.

The week will be inaugurated on October 1 at the Presidential Secretariat, with Urban Development, Construction, and Housing Minister Anura Karunathilaka announcing that this year’s theme will be “A Home of Your Own – A Beautiful Life.”

Highlighting the government’s commitment to ensuring housing rights, the Minister revealed that under the first phase of the program, 2,846 houses will be vested in the public, while 1,000 land deeds will also be distributed.

In addition to housing assistance and deed distribution, several other initiatives are planned during the week. The Minister stressed that housing development projects are being carried out sustainably, ensuring no harm to the environment and efficient use of land.

He further stated that the 2025 Budget has allocated special provisions for housing development, reflecting the government’s long-term vision of providing secure and sustainable housing for all citizens.
