The Department of Meteorology states that a few showers can be expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces as well as in Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya districts today (01).

Fairly strong winds, ranging from 30 to 40 kmph, are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-central, North-western, and Central provinces, as well as in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

Weather at Sea

howers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Matara via Galle.

Winds will be south-westerly with speeds between 30-40 kmph. However, wind speeds could increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, and from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar. Winds up to 50 kmph are also possible in the sea areas off the coast from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee.

As a result, the sea areas from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, and from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, will be rough at times, while the sea areas off the coast from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee will remain fairly rough.
