Vehicular movement along Ward Place in Colombo 07 has been disrupted today (30) following a protest march organized by the Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF).
The demonstration, staged against several issues including alleged suspensions imposed on student activists by the administration of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, led to severe traffic congestion in the surrounding areas and connecting roads.
Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes as police deployed additional units to manage traffic and ensure public safety during the protest.
The IUSF has accused university authorities of unfairly targeting student leaders through disciplinary action, while calling on the government to intervene in safeguarding student rights.
