Russian Kilo-class submarine experiencing technical difficulties reportedly surfaced in the Strait of Gibraltar.
Novorossiysk is a 74 metre submarine and is assigned to Russia’s Black Sea Fleet.
UK press reports it’s experienced a severe malfunction in its fuel system, creating a significant risk of explosion. It’s said to have declared a major alert in the Mediterranean Sea.
The submarine was reportedly forced above water near the Strait due to the technical issues.
GBC News has put questions to the Ministry of Defence and is awaiting a response.
For it’s part the Government has told GBC that this is a matter for the MoD.
