President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says the government has achieved significant progress over the past year in rebuilding the collapsed economy, restoring stability, strengthening the rule of law, ensuring a corruption-free administration, and improving efficiency in state institutions.
Addressing the Sri Lankan community in Japan at the Reiyukai Hall in Tokyo yesterday (28), the President said the government’s focus is on meeting economic growth targets within the new framework being built, while assuring that no new taxes will be introduced in the upcoming budget. He also noted that the government expects to reduce certain existing tax rates in the future.
Inviting Sri Lankans living abroad to join the nation’s development journey, the President urged them to invest in Sri Lanka without fear, assuring that the government stands ready to provide all necessary facilities.
Reflecting on the past year, President Dissanayake stressed that Sri Lanka has been able to maintain balanced diplomatic relations, a key factor in navigating an increasingly interconnected global economy. He emphasized that no country can progress in isolation and vowed to elevate Sri Lanka’s standing through constructive international partnerships.
The President also highlighted the importance of fostering national unity, noting that the past year will be remembered as a period free of communal conflict. He said the government’s mandate was not driven by promises of personal privileges but by the people’s call for genuine transformation.
“The success of our one-year journey should be measured by the progress made towards the transformation the nation has long awaited,” President Dissanayake said.
