A comprehensive investigation has been launched into a senior security chief accused of concealing key evidence linked to the Easter Sunday terror attacks of April 21, 2019, which killed over 300 people.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has revealed that the officer in question not only withheld crucial evidence but also assisted his subordinates in altering parts of the evidence, significantly hampering the progress of the probe.
The matter has been formally reported to court, and the officer is expected to be summoned before the CID for questioning.
The Easter Sunday attack investigations, which span multiple departments, have faced repeated allegations of obstruction over the years. In November 2019, several officers involved in the probe were transferred to other police stations across the country, while former CID Director Shani Abeysekara—who spearheaded the investigation—was arrested.
Currently, the CID Director Shani Abeysekara has resumed charge of the ongoing investigation.
