The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather forecast for 27 September 2025, warning of showers, heavy rainfall in some areas, and strong winds across several provinces.
Accrding to the forecast, showers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, and Southern provinces, as well as in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Fairly heavy rainfall of over 50 mm is likely in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, and in Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya.
Light showers may also be experienced in the North-central province and in Matale, Mannar, and Jaffna districts.
The Department further noted that strong winds between 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, as well as in Central, Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces, and in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts. The public has been urged to take necessary precautions to minimize damages caused by these winds.
Meanwhile, in the sea areas around the island, showers are expected in several places, particularly off the coast stretching from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be south-westerly at 30-40 kmph, but speeds may increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in sea areas from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota, and from Chilaw to Trincomalee via Mannar, Kankasanthurai, and Mullaittivu.
The seas in these regions are expected to be rough at times, and naval as well as fishing communities are advised to remain vigilant.
