A stockpile of weapons allegedly buried by former SLPP local government candidate Sampath Manamperi has been uncovered during a police search operation in the Middeniya area.
Police Spokesman ASP F. U. Wootler stated that the discovery was made based on information provided by Manamperi himself. Officers recovered two T56 rifle magazines, 115 rounds of T56 ammunition, a 9mm pistol, and a hand grenade.
Preliminary investigations revealed the weapons were buried on a plot of land where Manamperi's alleged mistress resides.
The discovery comes shortly after Manamperi surrendered to the Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court on September 17. He had been wanted in connection with the seizure of two containers reportedly containing ice (crystal methamphetamine) also buried on land in Middeniya.
