An investigation has been launched into the technical error that disrupted the border computer system of the Department of Immigration and Emigration at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, yesterday.

The probe was initiated on the instructions of Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, with technical assistance from the Ministry of Digital Economy. The Deputy Minister said a report will be compiled following the inquiry, with measures to prevent similar disruptions in the future.

The technical failure led to a total shutdown of clearance operations at the airport, forcing officials to switch to manual processing in order to minimize flight delays.
