Four suspects have been arrested in Habarana, Anuradhapura, and Pihimbiyagollewa with a large stock of counterfeit Rs. 5000 currency notes, Police said.

Police said one suspect was initially apprehended in Habarana with three fake notes in his possession. Interrogations led to the arrest of two more individuals in Habarana and Anuradhapura, each found with two counterfeit notes.

Subsequent investigations resulted in the arrest of another suspect in Pihimbiyagollewa today (18), where officers seized 138 counterfeit Rs. 5000 notes along with a laptop, a scanner, and a printing machine believed to have been used in producing the fakes.

The suspects, aged between 23 and 42 years, are residents of Habarana and Anuradhapura. The Habarana Police are conducting further inquiries.

Authorities have warned the public to carefully inspect notes during daily transactions to avoid falling victim to counterfeit currency.
