The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) reports that foreign remittances sent by migrant workers have risen to USD 5.2 billion by the end of August 2025.
According to the Bureau, over 220,000 Sri Lankans have already departed for overseas employment this year, reflecting a growing interest in foreign job opportunities.
In response to this rising demand, the SLBFE has initiated several measures to strengthen the regulation of foreign employment agencies. Among these steps, a dedicated police unit will be assigned to the Bureau starting tomorrow, Chairman Kosala Wickramasinghe announced.
